Default Obtaining new skills

Hello,

I am new to this forum, but I have a feeling I will use it quite often in the future once the game went gold.

Ok here goes - I fought my way to (Post) Ascalon City. Now in this town there is a skill trainer who seems to have many useful skills for sale for my character (Monk/Elementalist), but each one costs one skill point. So before I spend a skill point, which I most likely never get back (to spend in higher skill levels), I was wondering if those skills were EXCLUSIVELY obtainable at that trainer. Or is there a chance that you will come across some quest giver and the reward are skills that are on that list.

For example: the ressurection skill for monks - can it only be obtained at that particular skill trainer in Ascalon (so am I forced to buy it there), or is there a chance I will run across a quest later which will give me that skill.

Cheers,
~Leighis

(I haven't played a BWE in months so this might be old...)

There are two other ways to get skills:

-Use a Signet of Capture on a boss and you can get a skill it used. Signet of Capture will be replaced by that skill.
-Use a skill ring OR a skill necklace on a skill charm. Necklaces make you unlearn the skill after a period of time. Skill rings make you learn it permanently.

Skill charms are bought at a charm vendor or gambled for. Necklaces are bought and rings are dropped. The signet of capture can be bought at the skill vendor.

skill rings, and charms have been removed:

two ways to get skills: from skill trainers, or signet of capture

a signet of capture is something you get from a skill trainer (still costs 1 skill point) and when you see a monster using a skill you want, you use the signet and your signet becomes that skill

for release though, for certain quests, skills maybe the reward... but any skil you obtain will cost a skill point... for now

There's several areas to obtain skills. Look at the following webpage to see where you can get the skills you need:

You get a skill point every time you gain a level, even past lvl 20, and when you finish a mission.

Many of the quests in the Explorable areas give skills as rewards- I've obtained about 8-10 new skills from the quests I've completed in post-searing Ascalon, and I've picked up several quests in Yak's Bend that also give skills as a reward. I'm not sure when a list of skill quests and such will be available, but it is definately possible to acquire a large number of skills via quest rewards. The example of Resurrect is one that you can get via a quest reward- I believe you can get it from one of the quests out in the Old Ascalon EA, just off of post-searing Ascalon City.

Hello,

that's exactly what I meant. So there are indeed overlapping skills you can get both at the skill trainers and from quest rewards ? That means before you spend a skill point at a trainer you might want to explore the surrounding areas first in case you find a quest which might give you that skill ?

As in case of Ressurect - I thought I pretty much made all the quests there, but did not find any monk specific quests (only in the Serenity Temple, but that one gave other skills). Do you recall which NPC the quest starter is ?

ONE NOTE

Gaile said in an interview that the MAJORITY of skills could be obtained as a result of quests

so unless skill points are burning a hole in your pocket i would see what you can grab for free

Default Capture Signet questions

How many times can the Capture Signet be used?

Does it have to be a boss, or a monster?

Do the skills from other professions have base attribute points applied to them?

Is it possible, with this, to build a character with your favorite spells from each profession (those that monsters have anyway)?

I know that Capture Signet is not 100%, but I could potentially see a character with a great collection of skills.

1 time
a boss
only your primary or secondary professions
note that after level 20 you can switch secondaries

back with more as i look it up

here it tis

The bottom line is that you could have a primary character who has experimented with all five available secondary professions. That character will likely have good stock of skills in each of those lines. In fact, that character could have every skill in each of the five available secondaries. The character then, in ways not yet to be revealed, will be able to shift to a different secondary and take advantage of a long history of roleplaying character development.

What happens if you complete a quest with a skill reward that you already have? Do you get nothing for it or do you get a free skill point? Does anyone know?

Ok..really dumb question here. If I have Capture Signet and I am in a battle...I might not be familiar with the spell being thrown at me by the boss...I may not know if it relates to my primary or secondary profession but I use capture and it doesn't work...can I try it on another spell being cast in that same battle?

You can tell what profession the boss is by the glow color of it, so you should know if you can capture it or not, ie, the boss is one of your professions. And if you end up not capturing anything, you can still use it (though the site says it has a 10 second recast.)

When you say you gain skill points past level 20, do you mean through pvp?

Or do you mean (and I'm just throwing out a number here), if it requires 50k xp to reach level 20, then every 50k xp you gain after that will gain you another skill point? If so, do the requirements increase as you gain more points?

Also, the "Rank" stat seems to imply that you can also gain skill points through pvp. Can you gain a potentially infinite number of skill points this way? Or are there only a finite number of ranks and once you reach the top rank you can no longer gain skill points through pvp?

Thanks!

There is a Monk near the Sardelac Sanitarium that gives you several quests with skills as part of the reward. Turn right outside the gate and you should see him nearby if you use Alt to look around. I was told that he gives you ressurect as a reward, but haven't done his second quest yet, so I can't confirm it.
